Most food offered at the pantry is delivered early on Wednesday mornings.
When Wednesday falls on a major holiday (like New Years Day), volunteers
adapt as needed. This past Thursday an energetic crew took on the workload
for the day: unloading Good Shepherd at 7:30 AM, stocking shelves that had
been depleted two weeks ago and opening the pantry by 9 AM. Special thanks
go out to all of them!
Here is the breakdown of comparative figures:
2020 (2019)
Households 215 (136)
Adults 296 (188)
Senior 121 (49)
Children 157 (95)
Individuals 574 (332)
New 3 (5)
A hint at the low 2019 numbers appears on that stat sheet with the simple
word in parenthesis (snow).
And speaking of snow, if the pantry must close due to weather, volunteers do
their best to get the word out via radio and Facebook. Recognizing the
prevalence of food insecurity in our area, great effort is made to open the
pantry regardless of weather, sometimes with shortened hours. Generally if
school closes, there is a chance that the pantry will also. Therefore,
calling ahead (374-2900) before making the trip into town may help avoid
dissapointment.
May 2020 be filled with blessings beyond belief.
’til next week,
Brenda
